Shakomato is an established tea estate located on the north bank of the Brahmaputra river in Assam. The brand - which describes itself as organic, aromatic and indigenous - derives its name from a local Japanese village which, as per popular lore, traces its origin from a soldier who lived there during the Second World War. Finding itself resolving inherent tensions in the present day – the brand is ages old yet contemporary, traditional and progressive, considered and entrepreneurial. They reached out to us for an identity makeover when they decided to expand into the D2C market space.
LOGO:
We stylised an element from their existing monogram into a leaf, which also replaced the 'A' letterform in the new wordmark. The new logo emerged fresh and green, with brand retention from the old symbol yet reimagined into the current context.
COLOUR PALETTE:
The range of herbs and organics can be consumed throughout the day - you can begin your day with an energising cup of Shakomato Black Tea and end it with the gentle fragrance of Basil Oil lulling you into a good night's sleep. We developed a colour palette for the brand that goes from sunrise to sunset - covering the expanse of a whole day.
PACKAGING:
Keeping in mind the versatile nature and the health-promoting effects of the products, we designed scenic water colour illustrations for each - reminiscent of the mood the product creates. Chamomile calms you down? Let us transport you to a field of flowers to soothe your senses. Black Peppercorn helps you get rid of headaches after a tiring day? We take you into the quiet woods at dusk. The expressive, textured strokes take an emotive stance, linking food to feelings and to memories in time and at the same time.
PHOTOSHOOT:
We styled the product shoot as an extension of the visuals on the packaging. Sets were created with elements from the packaging visuals, placing each product in an extended environment of itself.
To re-invent Shakomato while paying homage to their roots, celebrating their inherent creativity as they enter a new phase was a fun challenge to take on! They are as much as wholesome gifting treats as much daily pantry commodities.
